Anne-Marie Lemarchand on Pariisissa vuonna 1957 syntynyt ranskalais-suomalainen taidemaalari. Hänen lapsuutensa ja nuoruutensa ovat kuluneet osin Helsingissä ja Somerolla, jossa hän viettää edelleen kesiään.
Taiteen pariin Lemarchand löysi jo lapsena. Pariisissa hän leikki taiteilijaa ja yhdeksänvuotiaana asettui kadulle myymään itse tekemiään teoksia ohikulkijoille. Myöhemmin hän suoritti Pariisin kuvataideakatemian valmistavan koulutuksen. 1970-luvulla hän työskenteli myös mallina muun muassa Hailuodon kesäkursseilla ja Kuvataideakatemiassa.
Ensimmäiset näyttelynsä Pariisissa Lemarchand piti 1990-luvun alussa. Tuon ajan maalauksissa toistuivat vapautumisen, levon ja auringonpaisteen tunnelmat: palmut, aurinkohattuiset ihmiset ja hetkeksi pysähtynyt elämä loivat teoksiin keveyttä ja helpotusta.
Nykyisin Lemarchandin taiteen keskiössä ovat kasvit ja kasvillisuus. Luonto toimii hänelle väylänä oman elämäntarinan tutkimiseen ja menneisyyden jälkien etsimiseen. Hän tarkastelee kasvistoa, rakentaa mielikuvituksellisia maisemia ja etsii maalauksissaan harmonian mahdollisuuksia.
Lemarchandin teokset ovat monitasoisia ja omaleimaisia. Hienovarainen sommittelu, jännittävät muodot ja yllättävät mittasuhteet synnyttävät kuvamaailman, jossa tuttu ja epätodellinen kohtaavat. Kasvit eivät ole vain luonnon jäljitelmiä, vaan ne muuntuvat maalauksissa muistin, mielikuvituksen ja kokemuksen maisemiksi.
Väri on Lemarchandille tutkimisen ja leikin väline. Hän kokeilee rohkeasti erilaisia värisävyjä ja pintoja sekä niiden välisiä suhteita. Maalaamisessa yhdistyvät uteliaisuus, kokeilevuus ja kauneuden tavoittelu. Hänen taiteessaan voi aistia ranskalaisen estetiikan vaikutuksen – hienostuneisuuden, sommittelun herkkyyden ja vahvan värillisen ajattelun.
Lemarchandin taiteellinen pyrkimys on yksinkertainen mutta kunnianhimoinen: tehdä maailmasta hieman kauniimpi ja samalla löytää omaan historiaan kätkeytyviä jälkiä. Luonnon kautta hän rakentaa henkilökohtaista kuvakieltä, jossa menneisyys, mielikuvitus ja nykyhetki kohtaavat.

Anne-Marie Lemarchand is a French-Finnish painter, born in Paris in 1957. She spent parts of her childhood and youth in Helsinki and in Somero, Finland, where she continues to return each summer.
Lemarchand’s relationship with art began at an early age. As a child in Paris, she would play at being an artist and, at the age of nine, took her own paintings into the streets, attempting to sell them to passers-by. She later undertook preparatory studies at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts. During the 1970s, she also worked as a model, including at the summer courses in Hailuoto and at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
Lemarchand held her first exhibitions in Paris in the early 1990s. Her paintings of that period conveyed a sense of release, freedom and repose, with palm trees and figures reclining beneath sun hats evoking a world of warmth, light and escape.
Today, plants and vegetation lie at the heart of her practice. Lemarchand explores nature as a means of approaching her own life story, tracing fragments and echoes of the past through the natural world. She studies plants and botanical forms, transforming them into imagined landscapes in which harmony, memory and the imagination intertwine.
Her paintings are richly layered and distinctly individual. Delicate compositions, intriguing forms and unexpected shifts in scale create a visual language in which the familiar is subtly transformed. Plants cease to be mere representations of nature and become vehicles for memory, imagination and personal experience.
Colour is central to Lemarchand’s practice. She approaches it with curiosity and a sense of play, experimenting with tonal relationships, textures and surfaces. Her work is driven by a desire to discover rather than simply to depict, while beauty remains a constant aspiration. Her sensibility is rooted in French aesthetics, expressed through an appreciation of refinement, harmony and the expressive potential of colour.
At the heart of Lemarchand’s practice is a simple yet deeply personal ambition: to make the world a little more beautiful while uncovering traces of the past. Through the language of nature, she creates paintings in which memory, imagination and the present moment come together.
